There was a fast car chase in the centre of Motril yesterday morning which ended on one of the Rambla de Los Álamos lanes.
Townsfolk were stunned to witness a high-range car with French number plates being pursued by Policía Nacional patrol cars.
What led to this was a call from concerned locals to say that there was a car doing handbrake turns and speeding in Barrio Rambla de los Álamos, so a police car was despatched but when it arrived the culprit tried to flee the scene.
When the car reached the Ronda de Levante it drove along the wide pedestrian pavement, smashing over a lamppost. Despite the damage to the car, it sped on, but didn’t get very far as it was losing a lot of liquid and finally broke down right next to the Puente Toledano.
The driver, a 30-year-old Algerian, tried to escape on foot and when they caught up with him he resisted arrest.
