The Coast Guard (Guardia Civil) have charged the owner of a fishing boat that was found operating in the protected area off Maro-Cerro Gordo.
The patrol boat came across the Málaga-registered fishing boat on the 19th of this month and boarded it and found that it was using a trawling net, which is strictly forbidden there because of the Poseidon grass (underwater meadows) that cover the seabed.
In fact, any kind of fishing is forbidden within the natural-park waters.
They also found that the crew had not activated the AIS/SIA (automatic identification system) which is obligatory on any fishing boat of 15 metres in length or more.
Unfortunately, this is not the first time that this boat in particular has been caught in this marine-reserve area. In fact, in recent years it has been caught on 25 seperate occasions, 15 of which by the Motril-based coast guards.
