Councillor for Tourism, Rafael Caballero, announced that Almuñécar had been chosen amongst the 24 tourist municipalities to go digital.
The Plan Nacional de Territorios Inteligentes is an initiative aimed at providing tourism-based municipalities with efficient IT capacity, both for their residents and their visitors.
The first stage will be a thorough diagnosis of town’s actual capacity. After that a budget of 64,000 euros (40% from the municipal coffers) will be used to instal six, touchscreen, information panels in both Almuñécar and La Herradura.
Four 42-inch panels will be set up inside the Town Hall, the main tourist information office (Palacete de la Najarra), the Casa de la Cultura in Almuñécar and the Centro Cívico in La Herradura. There will also be two 49-inch-panels in the the Town Hall Square and the Plaza del Agua.
The councillor is sure that these information panels will modernise the two urban centre’s image providing a new way of informing people, especially those versed in new technologies.
Now, you’re probably thinking that these information panels won’t last long, especially the ones in the open, but Councillor Caballos assures that they are fitted with anti-vandalism systems. Furthermore, they can moved to any points where there is an electricity supply and internet.
These information panels are not only a useful tool for tourist-information offices but will actually be mini T/I offices themselves, providing interactive maps, weather information as well as information on the location and history of monuments and attractions. Furthermore, you will also be able to use your credit card to book and pay entrance fees in advance.
Editorial comment: excellent news but… can’t you do all this on your own mobile phone, anyway?
