The Almuñécar Town Council has decided to hire a company specialised in stabilising embankments etc to work on the parallel road to San Cristobal.

Near Hotel Victoria Playa on Avenida Sánchez de Alcázar there is a small cliff or bluff above the road where periodic rockfalls are taking place and with the recent rainfall they have become even more frequent.

The Councillor for Urban Development, José Manuel Fernández, explained that the situation can be dangerous as the rocks are falling on the pavement below. In fact, municipal workers have already put pedestrian barriers up to stop people walking past the foot of the bluff. It’s not a clever place to park, either.

The contract has gone to Expoa S.L. with a budget of 39,242 euros, plus IVA. Given that this is urgent, it is stipulated that the company must complete the task within one month

Editorial comment: readers might remember that Otívar had a similar problem and extensive stabilisation work was carried out using cables and strong metal netting.
