The Guardia Civil in Salobreña are investigating a possible case of kilometre-counter fraud on a 2nd-hand, car sale.
They have questioned a 43-year-old, local man, who has a criminal record, over an incident that took place in May, involving the sale of a car to a man in Roquetas de Mar (Almería).
Just a few days after having bought the car from the suspect for nearly 15,000 euros, the car developed a fault, so he took it into a garage. The mechanic informed him that the kilometre counter had been tampered with.
Armed with this knowledge he took the car into a car dealer for that make of car in Almeria, where they confirmed that the kilometre reading had been manipulated, so he denounced the Salobreña man before the Guardia Civil there.
Editorial comment: There are ways of checking for yourself if a kilometre counter has been fiddled with in an amateur manner. If your Spanish is up to it, the following link is very informative.
