The Club Deportivo y Cultural, El Sendero has organised the IX Travesía Popular de Montaña Costa Tropical for the 28th of this month. This yearly event aims to promote local walks on the Costa Tropical.

The walk, which will cover 19 kilometres, will start in Guajar Faraguit, passing through Guájar Fondón and then through Sierra de la Guindalera via Los Palmares, Alto de las Espartinas, before dropping down into the municipality of Lobres. From there the walk will continue along a path that runs down the side of Río Guadalfeo before finally arriving in Salobreña.

Those participating, will have their first meeting between 18.00h and 21.00h on Saturday the 27th and again then at Salobreña’s municipal stadium, Los Trance on Sunday at 06.00h.

Participants will leave by bus at 06.45h for Guájar Faraguit where they will have breakfast before setting out.

The number of participants is limited to 150; first come, first served. So far 66 places have already been filed. The last chance to put your name down is the 19th but we recommend that you do it now, if your are interested.

The minimum age is 10 and all participants will need to hand in a signed declaration stating that they do not suffer from any illness that would prevent them from participating. This must be handed in on  the Saturday meeting. Otherwise it can be scanned and sent to celsendero@gmail.com. Children will also need a  signed parental authority. You’ll need adequate footwear and clothing and a torch. Breakfast, which is included in the inscription fee (20 euros) will be held in Escuelas de Guájar Faraguit between 07:15h and 07:50h. Water, nuts, sweets and energy bars will be provide along the way for those that require them. You also get a T-shirt with your number.

The walk leaves at 08.00h and the ETA will be 14.30h at the Salobreña municipal stadium.

For those that wish to stay the night before – participants come from all over Andalucia – the accommodation is the sports stadium: bring your own airbed/sleeping mat and sleeping bag.

As for prizes, there are 14 trophies and your official participant number (worn on your back) will be placed in a raffle of 12 gifts. You can visit the club’s site for more information
