Do you know when La Herradura got its first water-mains supply and sewage system? It was in 1962 – 57 years later, it’s getting it all renewed.
In fact, according to the First Councillor, Juan José Ruiz Joya, 52% of the replacement work is complete. The narrow streets make accessibility for machinery difficult – 1962, it was all done with pickaxes, shovels and donkeys with panniers.
The areas left to do are easier to get at, but Calle Real y Plaza de las Morenas, together with Calle Luna are much busier.
Right now work is being carried out on Cuesta Fray Leopoldo and connecting streets.
But it’s not just a case of digging up, removing pipes and replacing them before filling in the trenches again, because it’s also about leaving streets with improved paving.
All this work is paid for through the canon (levy) included in our water bills, by the way.
