The business owners behind the AECSALH are far from happy with the Almuñécar Mayor’s move to award a mega-cleaning contract elsewhere.
The AECSALH (Asociación de Empresas de Construcción y Servicios Asociados de Almuñécar y La Herradura), as it’s name suggests is a conglomerate of local businesses that provide street and beach cleaning services, as well as construction work, and has enjoyed the municipal contracts for some time past.
However, now the Mayor intends to hand a huge contract covering a period of the next ten years to an outside large company, worth 50,000,000 euros. This contract includes, rubbish collection (domestic and garden), urban and beach cleaning, street repairs and cutting back vegetation along country lanes.
Consequently, the association called upon the Mayor not to make any hasty decisions during the Plenary Meeting of the Town Council on Monday the 11th. (Note: this article was written prior to the meeting.)
Editorial comment: in order to clarify the problem it should be explained that all these individual tasks were covered under individual contracts, small enough for local companies to opt for them. However, if there is to be just one contract to cover all the tasks, no local company can handle it. The AECSALH is only an association and not a business entity.
