La Herradura Cloudburst

LHR Flooding 01The downpour in La Herradura started a little after four in the morning, reaching it heaviest period just after midday yesterday.

But it wasn’t over because at 16.00h there was another cloudburst.

Fortunately, on both occasions the cloudburst was short although intense. Despite this fact, Paseo Andrés Segovia, Calle Real and Calle Canalejas took a beating.

The recent work on channelling rain water down the Caleta end (Punta de la Mona) handled the deluge well but the channeling work near the Mercado Municipal was a different matter because that is where the  mouth of the Cauce connects with the paseo.

The affect was reminiscent of earlier years before the channelling work leaving difficult access to Chiringuito Sardina.

And of course the Rambla del Espinar brought down quite a bit of vegetation and debris, which it left scattered over the beach road. However, cleaning crews were soon out clearing it up and providing a crossing point for pedestrians.

It was the ongoing work on the Cuesta Fray Leopoldo that made a mess of Calle Real, Calle Príncipe and Calle Canalejas further down. Workers from these worksites were used to clear up the stones and mud that had been dragged down by the rain.
