The provincial law courts in Granada have confirmed a 6-month, suspended sentence on a Motril man for stalking a woman who didn’t want a relationship with him.
The original sentence was handed down by the Motril courts on the 31st of May, 2017 for events dating back to December, 2014, when the stalking victim met the man and a friendship developed. He wanted to take it beyond friendship, but she didn’t, which is when things got out of hand.
Then in July, 2015, he made several phone calls and online invites to ‘like’ his Facebook account, and from there started bombarding her with text messages, demanding that she answered them.
Not content with that, he started turning up at her place of work and hanging around to find out her work hours. He followed her and made several verbal threats.
The victim had to change her work hours, block his calls and block him on social media platforms – she even moved to a new home. Being a mother, she was also worried about the safety of her child.
Besides the suspended sentence, he also has to pay 500 euros in damages and is forbidden from approaching within 300 metres of her during a period of two years.
