The Almuñécar Policía Local were busy during June and July, especially against illegal street hawking, known as ‘Top Manta.’
They received 83 denuncias in the Palace of Doom, otherwise known as the local police station, which means that they were handling more than one a day.
Anyway, back to street hawking; it wasn’t all about optimistically name-branded forgeries, be they items of clothing or sunglasses guaranteed to suntan your retinas, because the summer brings out people hawking melons, bunches of garlic and homemade sweets.
But it is our tentative residents from south of the Atlas Mountains whose products adorn blankets rigged with quick-getaway ropes on each corner that have our rugged and rumpled, municipal police overworked.
Yes, of those 83 denuncias, 61 were against the above-mentioned gentlemen on the Paseo de San Cristóbal.
All the confiscated items were jealously hoarded in the police station, perhaps an item or two less…, pending ritual destruction by steamroller on the Plaza de Blas Infante or the lorry park next to the municipal stadium.
