Irksome Promotional Video

COS Costa Tropical PromotionThe Costa Tropical has many attractive features, both natural and manmade, but what it doesn’t have is cave houses, despite a recent promotional video’s content.

It’s the first time that the Provincial Council has financed a promotional video just for its coastline; something that the area has long desired.

Yes, brochures about skiing on the Sierra Nevada in the morning and sunbathing in the afternoon on the beaches is great stuff, but the coastal towns wanted – needed – something specifically to promote the Costa Tropical in all its glory.

So, when the Council announced that it would be making a video; albeit it a modest one of some 30 seconds, the local mayors were over the moon. But when they watched it, right at the end, up pops the Cueva de los Franceses in Guadix about 130 kilometres inland.

They were flummoxed?! Cave houses, eh? Hell, why not include the Eiffel Tower, they might have mused!

It didn’t take long for them to start hammering on the Provincial Council’s door, demanding an explanation. We’ve got beaches, Roman Aqueducts, castles, aquariums, water parks, a golf course; more than enough to fill 30 seconds, the mayors reasoned.

Unabashed the Council Spokesperson offered that they thought it looked quite nice and rounded it off nicely. “When we make an area promotional video we often include generic material from around Andalucia.”

Editorial comment: Why not include a photo of the Spokesperson’s pet rabbit or one of his mother-in-law snoring on the sofa to give the video a touch of cuddliness and humanity?
