Another car drove off a road and plunged down a steep slope, but this time it was on a track above the Playa El Cañuelo near Maro.
Three people; a man aged 50, and two women, aged 25 and 26, were injured in the accident, which took place on the afternoon of Wednesday the 13th. The car, for reasons unknown, left the track, which leads down to the beach, and plunged down a barranco.
The car came to rest 10 metres down and the three occupants were able to get out of the car themselves, despite many cuts and bruises.
The man was taken by ambulance to the Axarquia Area Hospital, whilst the two women were treated on the spot and then taken to the Nerja medical centre.
This access track has restrictions on private vehicles all year round, with only authorised vehicles allowed. In the summer, there is a shuttle service, the same as Playa Cantarriján
In another incident on the same day, a 12-year-old girl had to be rescued after taking a fall in Río Chíllar – she was part of a group of excursionists from Sevilla who had been spending a couple of days in Almuñécar.
The girl had fallen and suffered a fractured leg not far from the area known as the Tercera Fábrica de la Luz.
