July last year saw Salobreña residents shocked by a bag-snatching episode in the centre of town, carried out with marked violence.
The Guardia Civil got to work and using the IMEI from a stolen mobile they approached phone companies to find out if it had been activated.
Time passed and then one of the phone companies informed police that, effectively, the phone had been activated using one of their telephone numbers and passed on the name on the phone-service contract.
The police contacted this person who claimed that although her boyfriend had found it in the street, she was the one using it.
After identifying the said boyfriend, the couple, aged 27 and 32, have been charged as the alleged culprits behind the robbery. The phone has been returned to its rightful owner.
