Padul has been suffering a wave of break-ins & robberies, and not just nocturnal ones because one even occurred at eleven in the morning.
An individual burst into the Post Office at that time, armed with a large knife with his head covered and carried out a hold up before fleeing on foot. The amount the thief got away with is not known
However, between 02.00h and 06.00h – seemingly unconnected with the Post Office hold up – thieves did over a cafeteria and two dwellings, one of which belongs to the Mayor, Manuel Alarcón. The Mayor and his family were asleep inside at the time.
Is nothing sacred?
But the thieves were on a roll and decided to move on to neighbouring Dúrcal before the night was out and do over a shoe shop.
Many locals believe that the same culprits were involved in both the Dúrcal and Padul burglaries.
As a result of these crimes the Town Council passed a motion to request Guardia Civil reinforcements in the area and it’s not the first time that such a request has been made.
According to the Mayor, there are only six policemen but whose area of responsibility is not only restricted to Padul -they are thinly spread, therefore. There are also six municipal policemen, but they don’t work on weekends….
