A 50-year-old man tried to set himself alight in the Emergency Department of a Granada hospital yesterday morning.

The incident occurred at 09.15h at the Hospital Virgen de las Nieves when the man entered the A&E entrance and then poured petrol over himself. Having some left in the petrol can, he poured the rest over the reception desk and the floor, before shouting, “I’m going to set light to myself.”

Fortunately for him and the other people present, a security guard managed to wrestle him to the ground and thus prevent him from igniting himself.

Rather than arresting him, he was immediately hospitalised.
