The cleaning operation to remove wax from street surfaces in Almuñécar and La Herradura has begun in earnest.
Cleaning crews had been working on the wax-splattered streets even while the processions were going on so that there wouldn’t be so much at the end of Semana Santa and to cut down the probability of accidents involving vehicles or pedestrians.
The workers have been using scrappers on the end of a poles to remove the wax, as well as high-pressure hoses using hot water.
In the meantime the relevant councillor is asking locals to take care whether on foot or driving
Editorial comment: …And this is about as far as I can get without bursting a blood vessel… Why does the Town Hall not prohibit the use of real candles in the processions?
They are supposed to ensure that the streets and road surfaces are kept in a safe condition; not simply applaud and simper when a procession goes past. It costs taxpayers a lot of money to clean this mess up, not to mention the risk to life and limb for the unwary.
It’s the 21st Century; use a bloody artificial candle!
