Almuñécar has been busy tidying the beaches for Semana Santa, clearing away all the debris that the rivers have brought down.
According to the Councillor for Beaches (and just about everything else) Luis Aragón, workers have picked up a million kilos of cane and other vegetation that had been ripped out of the riverbeds and water courses by the heavy rainfall.
In fact, not only the river water moved the debris to the river mouths, but the pounding waves provoked by high winds had carried the canes from one beach to another, covering beaches that had already been cleaned up. This meant that the cleaning company, Urbaser, in some cases, had to clean up the same beach three times.
