The Junta’s Campsite Decree

ALM CampingIf you’ve got the money to buy a large campervan and travel across Europe, then you’re not short of a euro or two, so why shun their tourism?

Up to now, you could park a campervan up to eight months on a campsite, but a recent regional law has reduced it to six months. The 8-month restriction was to prevent somebody using a campsite as their fixed abode, yet cutting it down to six months is effectively cutting into the low-season takings of campsites which permits them the stay open all year round with high occupation figure between October and May.

The law also seeks to regulate areas where campervan can park up for a night or two and connect up to water and electricity; areas that are not official campsites. The camping sector sees this as another assault on their livelihood.

However, campsites are not taking this decree lying down and is calling on the Junta to reverse the situation.

The Junta on the other hand is selling this decree as a positive move for the sector as, for the first time, it recognises these short-stay, quasi-campsites in a unique category, working in junction with established campsites, sharing certain services.
