Hire bicycles are often disappearing and ending up in unlikely places, but even so, finding a Granada one in Almuñécar was still a surprise.

The Policía Local took charge of the wayward hire-bike and contacted the company that provides them for tourists in the capital, which promised to send somebody down to Almuñécar and pick it up the next day.

It’s a long way to cycle but on the other hand, who would put one in the boot of their car and drive down with it?

We’re accustomed to seeing supermarket, shopping trolleys abandoned in unlikely alleys or adorning the dry riverbed but hire bikes from 80 km inland?
