The Policía Local in Almuñécar have arrested a French driver for alleged forgery and vehicle theft.
The man was intercepted yesterday on Avenida Rey Juan Carlos I – the driver had drawn attention to himself because he was speeding. They pulled the french-plated, black, Peugeot 308 over and asked the driver for ID and his vehicle docs; the latter he was unable to produce.
The driver claimed that the car docs were in the possession of a relative who had returned to France on Thursday. The police weren’t convinced and escorted the car to the police station where it received a thorough inspection.
They soon found irregularities (the chassis number didn’t match the number plate when checked against each other), which together with the absence of vehicle documents, brought about his immediate arrest.
Consulting the French authorities it turns out that the car was reported missing on the 1st of March
