There is scant information available, but there is a fire somewhere near Móvizar, plainly visible from Motril, Salobreña and Otívar – where I am.

There is nothing from Infoca but we have contacted the Motril Fire Service, who have confirmed that both the Infoca and the Motril firemen are at this moment fighting the fire. There are also aircraft involved in the fire-fighting task although none are visible from this elevated vantage point (above Otívar).

Having spoken with the Policía Local in Molvízar it appears that the fire is in the Minchal area of the municipality and that it appears to be under stabilised (15.37h). A possible cause appears to be the burning of fruit-tree cuttings (rastrojos) which had got out of control.

According to the said police source, there has also been a fire incident in Los Guajares this morning.

We will supply more information as it comes in.

Update 18.00h: Latest reports locate the fire just over the Molvizar municipal border in the Vélez Benaudalla one between the N-323 and the A-4133, not far from the Tajo de los Vados (canyon).
