Fifty-odd lorries have suffered punctures on a particular stretch of the AP-7 where it passes through Cataluña – the culprit is allegedly a policeman.

It is not known why the 51-year-old man, who has been off sick since September, decided to carry out this sabotage, although it might be related to the independence movement.

The incidents took place on the 1st and the 5th of December when the alleged culprit belonging to the regional police force, Los Mossos d’Esquadra, placed an elongated plate with spikes on it on the road surface of the motorway.

At first the regional policed believed, after the first day of punctures, that they had been caused by a lorry losing some of its load, but when, five days later, it all happened again, they became suspicious and examined CCTV coverage and saw the culprit putting down the spiked plates.

On both occasions he operated in the early hours, just outside the municipality where he lived, Montmeló, targeting lorries heading in the direction of Tarragona.
