Motril’s Improved Medical Centre

MOT Medical Centre ImprovedGood news for Motrileños because the old medical centre has been done up, giving it, amongst other things, better access for people with mobility problems.

It also now has five surgeries: two nursing surgeries, two treatment rooms and a doctor’s surgery.

The Junta de Andalucía provided 490,000 euros for this renovation project with the prime aim of making a more comfortable working space for staff, as well as a more comfortable one for users, thanks to its now 2,000 sq/m extension.

The most interesting part about this whole thing was that its design was the result of consulting the people of Motril via various associations, asking them how they wanted it to be.

SAS (regional health service) consulted: Conecta (for people with Autism), Aprosmo (mentally challenged), Parkinson Motril (Parkinson sufferers) ONCE (blind or visually impaired), Asotral (deaf and hard at hearing), AFAContigo (Alzheimer sufferers) and Acompalia (palliative care).

All architectural barriers have been removed throughout the centre for better access to people in wheelchairs, etc., including an entrance specially designed for people in mobility vehicles and a parking area for handicapped drivers. All the public restrooms (toilets) have been completely adapted, too.

Even the buttons on the lifts have been set at a height for people in wheelchairs.

As for the visually impaired, there is a podotactile, directional pavement on each floor, as well as at the entrance, on the access ramp. Furthermore, all the lifts have braille on the floor buttons.

The list of innovations goes on and on, taking into account every kind of disability that users might have.
