New Aquarium Inmates

ALM Aquarium InmatesThe population of Almuñécar’s aquarium is growing; some of it is down to the amorous activities amongst the existing population and part of it down to more specimens having been acquired.

Any new fishy inmates that are ‘imported’ have to go through a quarantine to make sure that they’re not bringing in anything infections before meeting the ‘lifers.’

The new kids on the block are: palometas (harvestfish), castañuelas (damselfish), viejas (vieja in English, too) and doncellas (rainbow wrasse).’

By the way, those four, Spanish fish names could also be translated for ‘wingnuts & popcorn, castanets, old ladies’ and ‘young lasses.’

Anyway, the Councillor for the Environment, is chuffed to bits with the aquarium staff and inmate population, he says, and would like to remind our readers that the Acuario, which is situated under the Plaza Kuwait, changes over to off-season hours on October the 1st, which are: 10.00h to 14.00h & 16.00h to 20.00h.

If you go there between 14.00h and 16.00h, you’ll probably catch a whiff of frying fish, as it’s lunchtime – just saying!
