A group of youngsters was arrested in Almuñécar for allegedly breaking into an ice-cream kiosk on Playa Velilla in the early hours of Monday the 31st of July.
The six individuals, aged between 17 and 22, come from Ogíjares and Alhendín, which are two satellite towns of the city of Granada.
A local attracted the attention of a Guardia Civil patrol at 06.30h to say that he or she had witnessed a group of people trying to force the door of the said kiosk. When the police went to investigate, they surprised three of them dragging a rubbish hopper loaded with stolen items from the kiosk.
The other three suspects were found checking our a nearby chiringuito to see if it was securely closed, presumably with the intention of carrying out a burglary.
The police told the three with the hopper to remain where they were, but they ran off in the direction of the beach and tried to hide behind the rocks together with the other three accomplices – logically, we can assume that this took place near Playa Tesorillo on the Playa Velilla side (La Punta de Jesús).
The police patrol had to call in reinforcements as they were outnumbered and couldn’t hope to catch all of them. They were soon backed up by another G.C. patrol and one from the Policia Local. Between them they were able to round up the six suspects.
