The Almuñécar Town Council has decided to ‘congratulate’ a municipal worker after he found and handed in nearly 1,000 euros in the botanical gardens, Parque Majuelo.

Víctor Leche Poveda was carrying out his cleaning chores when he came across a wallet containing the said sum, as well as credit cards and ID.

“I found the wallet and took it to the Policía Local in case its owner was looking for it,” he explained, adding, “It’s not the first time that I have found valuables, although it was the first time that I have found a wallet with 950 euros in it.” He said that it was more usual to come across mobiles and cameras.

Víctor Leche Poveda has worked for the Town Council since 1980 and for the last 14 years as the night watchman for the park.

The official congratulations will figure on his file for as ‘exemplary behaviour.’
