These arrests were part of police operation Portu, which began in January with the seizing of over a thousand weapons.
The arrested men used as a front a company dealing with toys and jewels in Vilanova in order to despatch the weapons overseas using the normal parcel post system, such as destinations in France and Belgium.
The police confiscated several firearms, which had been decommissioned and rendered incapable of firing. The suspects reversed the process and supplied ammunition.
The police estimate that the suspects arrested in Vilanova and la Geltrú carried out around 170 deliveries in the last two years.
The arrested men in Motril received gun pieces to be modified so that they could be posted to clients, most of whom belong to the criminal underworld.
One of the men arrested in Motril was caught with a short firearm barrel, amongst other pieces, whilst the man in Morón had 35,000 euros in cash and abundant munition for several calibre firearms.
