This great sporting day was held in support of Acompalia, a local charity providing support to people with terminal illnesses, and to their carers throughout the province of Granada.
Chris Oliver, of Acompalia, organiser of the event said:
“We used the playing formula which was so successful last year whereby golfers formed teams of two with only the best score at each hole counting toward the teams’ total. This meant that everybody had a chance of winning one of the excellent prizes donated by our wonderful sponsors. But ensures that all play a full game. The players really appreciate this format which, of course ensures their enjoyment of the day, all players having an equal chance of a prize.”
Once again, we were very fortunate that Golf International Nerja Society (GINS) designed and impeccably managed the competition. They devised many on-course extras to add more fun to the game and provide additional ways of winning extra prizes whilst adding more to the funds raised. Acompalia is truly grateful for GINS assistance, and record that GINS and its members donated many of the tournament and raffle prizes.
Ron Montero of Motril donated the main prizes, which were presented by Blanco Montero. They also provided a gift for each player and set up a drink stall on the course which raised additional funds. Many local companies also provided prizes, all of which contributed to the success of the day.
Following the golf a very enjoyable meal was held in the Golf Club Bar prior to which we were treated to a trumpet recital by the professional musician Mark Schrello. Later Mark gave the winners a fanfare which he last played at the Nobel prize giving ceremony.
First prize and winners of the Acompalia Cup were Jim Henderson and Karen Nuttall with 47 points. They also received a presentation box of Ron Montero top quality Rum.
Second prize went to Stewart Green and Rita McCracken with 46 points and Third with 45 points were Cliff and Diana Elliott both teams also received a presentation box of Ron Montero Rum. Jim was last year’s winner so he can look forward to an increased handicap next year. We hope that he has plenty of metal polish.
In all 12 prizes were given out resulting in lots of happy golfers.
All present agreed that the day had been a great success.
Acompalia is very grateful to all its supporters for their contributions to the event.
Chris further added that:
“This proved to be the perfect event with participants enjoying an excellent day whilst making a significant contribution toward enabling Acompalia to continue providing support to those in need and bringing the establishment of a hospice nearer.”
