The Day of Your Dog

SAL Day of your dogDespite the weather, which brought about a change of venue, Salobreña’s El Día de Tu Perro went ahead, with the collaboration of DOGHOUSE and CEPSA, on the 28th of April.

DOGHOUSE, by the way is the animal refuge association that lends its services to the Town Hall, and CEPSA is the municipal cleaning company.

Friday the 28th of April was one of those rainy days at the end of the month so the original venue where the event was to be held; i.e., the Plaza del Ayuntamiento, had to be changed to the Mayor Zaragoza junior school.

This event, which is now firmly established in Salobreña on a yearly basis, comprised of games and information on canine education, explained the Councillor for Education, Manuel Guirado. The basic idea is to foster the well-being of dogs, their owners and the environment.

Furthermore, the councillor believes that the town’s schoolchildren are the ‘vessel’ in which to get the message through to dog-owning homes, which is why schoolchildren from 5th and 6th grades at the San Juan de Ávila and Mayor Zaragoza schools were heavily involved.

The day started with the presentation on the new campaign to keep the streets clear of excrement and moved on to the photo exhibition and the handing out of free gifts to children who made photographic contributions.

After lunch there was a dog-training display given by the dog trainer, Sergio Teig, as well as diverse workshops and kiddie activities in collaboration with the animal refuge association.
