According to the Almuñécar PSOE, sewage water is appearing near the Marina del Este during the summer months when the area is at its highest occupation point.
This has been a problem for at least two years, according to socialist councillor, Pablo Ruiz Díaz, and it needs sorting out; something the governing party has not “bothered” to do, he claims.
He said that certain ubranizaciones were pumping their untreated sewage; not deliberately, but certainly knowingly: they have a private pumping station that pumps the sewage into the public system but that this pumping station often breaks down, meaning that the contents simply spills out into the sea.
He considers the solution to be abundantly clear – a new pumping station is needed. The urbanización community organization expressed their willingness to participate in the cost of such a measure in Abril 2016 and the Town Council approved earmarking part of the municipal budget to cover this… yet nothing has been done.
We are at the doors of Semana Santa so it is likely that the problem will resurface, literally and figuratively.
