Almuñécar Breakwater Repaired

ALM Breakwater RepairsWork has begun on the groyne/breakwater in front of Las Góndolas in Almuñécar with heavy machinery working literally amongst the waves, perched on the boulders.

Work actually began on Tuesday the 21st at the said point but other work will also be included in the coming days in the run up to Semana Santa, such as beach regeneration in Velilla, Cotobro and Marina del Este in La Herradura.

Perhaps Playa Cotobro was the worst hit, with the sea now reaching the seawall because of the abscence of sand below – the beach is gone.

A total of 242,000 euros have been earmarked for the sea-defence work in Almuñécar, with the Costas provincial office pledging to have it all finished before the beaches fill with Easter beach-goers.

The above sum represents part of the 726,000 euros budgeted by the Central Government for this kind of work along the Costa Tropical: beach regeneration for Playa Granada in Motril and the same of Playa La Cagaílla in Salobreña. A total of six beaches on the Costa Granadina will be included.
