2017 Herradura Fiestas

LHR Dressage PosterLa Herradura is getting ready for its fiestas, San Jose, which ill run from Thursday the 16th to Sunday the 19th – four days of activities and entertainment.

A portable bullring has been erected where most of the horse shows will take place, and, of course, the caseta oficial (municipal fiesta bar) is now, or will be shortly, occupying the Plaza de la Independencia.

No fiesta would be complete without the fiesta lighting or alumbrado, just as important as the Christmas lights in December.

Calle Eucalipto will be the setting for the Feria de Día, and the usual location has been chosen for the fairground attractions.

So, what’s on the cultural agenda? Well, on the first day there is the children’s literary competition, Virana; an activity that has been held each year for the last decade and is sponsored by Librería Coral.

There is also a photographic exhibition in the Mercado Municipal organised by the Foto Club Almuñécar.

As for the Feria de Día, it will run from 13.00h to 19.00h each day of the fiestas.

But the night is when the village goes into high gear with plenty of knees-up band music in the caseta oficial, starting at 23.00h each evening.

Oh, residents will also have to put up with the alegre despertar, thought up by a sadist, which involves distress rockets pounding the morning serenity into oblivion each day… for the fun of it!

There will be a bicycle parade around the village on Friday morning and a hawking exhibition in the Centro Cívico in the afternoon. There will also be sports in the form of padel and table tennis.

The dance groups la Escuela Pura Danza and Sabor Andaluz will perform as soon as it is dark, together with the dance group, Heart Breakers, who hold the title for the Andalusian Championships.

If you drank too much Friday and have a hangover, why not pop around to the National Mathematic Championships, Thales in the Centro Cívico – to really finish off your brain’s cognitive capacity?

LHR Humor AmarilloThere will also be an aero-modelling display on the beach and in the afternoon the village Big Heads (Cabezudos) will be paraded around town, before everybody heads off to the portable bullring for Japanese-style games (Humor Amarillo).

If you’re into religious activities, there will be a parade that will leave the Centro Cívico at 18.00h and end up at the church.

What else? Ah, yes; at 20.00h there will be a demonstration of aerobics and pilates, as well as martial arts. At 22.00h there will be a firework display and after that the nightly knees-up at the caseta.

Sunday, of course, is the last day, if you’re still alive and kicking, starting with a church service where the choir Bahia will sing. Then at 12.30h the municipal band will perform on the church terrace, ending with burning amps being thrown into the crowd…

In the afternoon there will be a horse dressage display at 16.30h and live music at the caseta oficial most of the evening.
