The Club internacional de Salobreña handed over a donation of 150 euros to the Estrella de Mar association in support of their work.
The International Club, which has members from all over the local area and not just residents of Salobreña, organise charity events throughout each year to raise money in order to provide financial support for such causes.
Estrella del Mar de Salobreña, on the other hand, works to improve the quality of children’s and adolescents’ lives who have special educational needs.
The Mayor, Mª Eugenia Rufino, together with the Councillor for Social Welfare, Mª José García, were present for the handing over ceremony between the Treasurer of the International Club, Joe Melville, and the Chairwoman of the Estrella del Mar, Elisa Otero.
They Mayor thanked the club made up foreign residents for their “generous gesture” and their “social commitment,” whilst at the same time praising the work carried out by Estrella del Mar.
So who and what is Estrella de Mar de Salobreña?
The association is made up of professionals from the education sector, amongst them behaviour therapists, psychologists, speech therapists and trained volunteers.
The association offers personalised, early attention and all kinds of workshops from social integration to education support.
It was a group of parents with children with these kinds of problems that got together to both raise social awareness of the problem, as well as provide professional support for them. They now have over 20 members.
