Further Otívar Rock Fall

IMG_1821Following the damage caused when a large rock fell onto parked cars in Otívar last month, there has now been further slippage in the village. This time, the fall occurred further up the main road through the village where a large amount of smaller debris came down.

The incident occurred between 7.30am and 8.00am this morning (21st February). Locals reported that just after the Granada bus had gone through the village, they heard a large crash, more or less in front of the restaurant Buena Vista.

Although there were no injuries or damage to vehicles on this occasion, the road was closed all day. At one point, due to the precarious state of the rock face, a large boulder was dislodged and allowed to fall in order to stabilize the situation.

In the previous incident on 4th January 2017, two cars were destroyed and three others damaged. This is clearly an ongoing problem with the rock face in the village.

Workmen continued to work into the evening after this latest incident putting steel netting over the rock face to prevent further slippage, much as they did after the previous incident.
