A man from a small village in the Alpujarra has been arrested, charged with cruelty to animals and causing the deaths of over half a dozen dogs. The 50-year-old man has an extensive criminal record.
A local from this same village called the Guardia Civil post in Ugíjar to say that he had discovered several dead dogs in a cortijo in ruins. The police inspected the place and found the eight dead dogs.
Two of the dogs had only recently died, apparently hanged, whilst the other six were in an advance state of decomposition, making it difficult, if not impossible, to determine the cause of death.
Furthermore, numerous neighbours stated that that they had seen him beating the dogs out on the streets when one or several accompanied him.
The man is currently waiting to appear before a magistrate.
