mot-racing-pigeons-conventionMotril will be holding a racing-pigeon convention from the 5th to the 11th of this month at the Fábrica del Pilar (hospital road, up from Al Campo)

The full title of the meet is pretty drawn out.. behold: XII Jornadas Monográficas Nacionales de Palomos Deportivos de la Raza Autóctona Andaluza del Palomo Buchón Granadino.

As the title suggests, this is a national event, which is organised by the Club de Colombicultura Palomas Buchonas de Motril. Yes, Motril has a racing-pigeon club! Also involved in the organising is the Real Federación Española de Colombicultura.

A representative of the FAC, Cándido Sánchez, pointed out that this event has been held all over Spain in the last decade but that this is the first time that it has been held in Motril.

Around 500 spectators and participants are expected to turn up to see the 300-odd specimens.

As far as the timetable goes, there will be an exhibition open to the public from Wednesday the 7th from 10.30h to 13.30h and then 1700h to 20.00h. This will be followed on Friday and Saturday but starting at 10.00h – apart from that, the rest of the times remain the same.

So, there’s a date for your diary, if you’re into racing pigeons, or just fancy doing something different.
