Just as our fair town of Almuñécar continues to grow, so does the repertoire and support of our fine group. December 2016 is proving to be one of our busiest seasons yet, with not one, but four opportunities to enjoy the dulcet tones of the choir performing quite distinct pieces to sing in this special time of year.
Diaries out, pens ready…
Firstly, if you’re prepared to travel up to Granada, our Choir will be participating in the performance of the majestic Messiah by Händel at the Auditorium of Manuel de Falla in Granada capital on both the 16th and 17th December from 8:30pm. Truly a spectacular event with approximately 200 people involved, including the Orchestra of Granada.
If you prefer to remain local and avoid the schlep up North, no problem. You have two more opportunities to enjoy the Choir.
On Sunday 18th December, we will be performing the unique Misa Criolla by Ariel Ramírez in the Iglesia de la Encarnación (main Church in Almuñécar). Anyone who has ever heard the work, just won’t want to miss this! We will be sharing the limelight with the instrumentally and vocally gifted group of Vientos del Sur, so it should prove to be a very memorable experience. The concert starts at 8pm, so make sure you grab your pew and get ready to enjoy those rhythmical combinations.
Finally, more in keeping with our traditional Christmas Concert, we will be performing on Wednesday 21st December, but breaking away from tradition by appearing in the Casa de la Cultura from 8pm. There will be a special appearance by the children’s choir, El Coro Infantil Los Arcos, which now boasts 45 members, but has its roots back to 2014 in Los Arcos School in Torrecuevas.
Although they will be focused on a repertoire designed for young voices, there will be a mixture of traditional favourites for the young and young at heart! There will be a small charge for this concert of 5 Euros, 20% of which will be passed on to look after those less fortunate inhabitants of Almuñécar.
So this December offers something for everyone, as we lead up to what we hope and pray will be your and our best Christmas ever!
