Seagulls Vs. Scrubbing Brushes

ALM Castle Clean Up OnLThe Almuñécar Town Hall has declared war on the seagulls over their sanitary habits; i.e., crapping all over the castle – is nothing sacred?

Consequently, there has been a special clean up going on up in the castle where workers from the cleaning company, Clece, have been out with scrubbing brushes and soapy water to remove these aerial calling cards.

The area of the castle that is being ‘sanitized’ is at the southern end and is known as La Coracha.

Now, don’t think that it’s just a case of whipping out the old brush and whistling the theme tune to Bridge Over The River Kwai because an archaeologist is supervising the operation so that the workers don’t scrub away a hundred years of venerable grime together with the gull offerings.

Two weeks ago, the castle had another face lift when the weeds growing out between the stones in the walls were removed, again with an archaeologist supervising things.

Anyway, the present clean up is to remove all trace of the gulls’ visits from the fencing, information boards, steps and unusually static tourists.
