Una Vida Buena? A new way of living for older people.
Some of us in the British community in Almuñécar have been thinking about our future here when we can no longer manage to live in our own houses or flats or when we no longer want to.
This may be for a variety of reasons such as limited mobility, distance from activities or isolation. We know that older friends, whether Spanish, Northern Europeans or other nationalities, are having similar thoughts.
Many of us have seen our parents or friends in difficulties when decisions have to be taken and they can no longer have a choice in where they live.
For these reasons we think it is worth exploring the possibilities of designing some kind of self-run, cooperative community where we could support each other in our older age, where renting is a better option than buying, where services could be bought in as needed and costs shared, and where we could maximize our later years and enjoy life to the full.
So we are looking for an international group of like-minded people to help make this happen; people who want to get involved in planning their own future living arrangements and who are prepared to join a working group to explore options.
Our first meeting will be downstairs in the Casa de la Cultura, Almunecar on 20th October at 18.00h with a follow-up meeting on Monday 7th November, same time, same venue.
We have been exploring links on the internet and have set up a web page – unavidabuenasite.wordpress.com – where you can find all kinds of information about similar initiatives in northern Europe and in Spain.
You can get in touch on unavidabuena2016@gmail.com and pass this information to anyone you think would be interested.
