…Again, we should add. This time it was a German father who had left his baby in a supermarket car park in Sant Joan d’Alacant, Alicante. It was Wednesday the 17th.

The 33-year-old father had gone shopping with his 3-year-old, leaving the 9-month-old baby inside the car – the outside temperature was 35º Celsius; inside the car it was at least 10º Celsius higher.

Passing shoppers in the car park alerted the police, who were patrolling nearby. The police had to break a window to get the unconscious child out.

The father came out of the supermarket to find the police by his car. At first, it appears, he wouldn’t let the ambulance crew take the baby to hospital. However, thanks to the medical assistance given on the spot the baby soon recovered and was handed back to the father.

The man, who has been charged with abandoning a minor, is on holiday in Spain with his family.

Editorial comment: What can we say? This is not Germany or any other country of a milder climate – this is Andalucia and it is August. On the other hand, the previous incident of this nature involved Spanish parents.
