This time it was Motril’s turn to have the dubious honour of having explosive ordnance appear on one of its beaches!
On Friday the 29th, two French youngsters, aged 15 and 11, came across a Civil-War era shell lodged amongst the rocks under a metre of water just two metres off Playa La Chucha, which is west of the Sacratif lighthouse, in Motril.
The Guardia Civil and Policía Local immediately cordoned off 150 metres of the said beach whilst at the same time Guardia Civil sea-rescue launch kept small boats and swimmers out of the area.
Once confirmed that it was an aging artillery shell, it was detonated at 21.30h that evening.
