The weather finally relented, helping to ensure a great day was had at the II Acompalia Golf Tournament, held at Los Moriscos course in Playa Granada. Acompalia is a local charity which provides support to people with terminal illnesses, and to their carers.
Chris Oliver, Treasurer of Acompalia and organiser of the event said:
“The ‘for-fun’ game was made up of teams of two playing a better-ball competition based on handicaps. This meant that everybody had a chance of winning one of the excellent prizes donated by our wonderful sponsors.
The golf part of the day was devised and impeccably managed by Golf International Nerja Society (GINS) without whose support the day would not have been the undoubted success it became.
In addition, GINS and its members donated many of the tournament and raffle prizes. These included towels with the Acompalia logo and golf balls for each player.
Many local companies also provided prizes, all of which contributed to the success of the day. A big raffle prize was provided by the Club International de Nerja, in the form of event vouchers worth €150..
Acompalia is very grateful to all its supporters.”
Chris further added that: “Acompalia particularly acknowledges the outstanding support provided by Ron Montero of Motril – whose rum was recently voted the best in the world. Presentation packs of their high-quality product were the major prizes. They also provided branded shirts and caps – and thus some players became ‘RUMS’ for the day. This enabled an impromptu ‘GINS’ v ‘RUMS’ competition – won by the ‘RUMS’.
A further highlight was the Ron Montero ‘chiringuito’ at Tee 10, providing players with a refreshing drink at the halfway mark”
The prizes were presented by Maria Elena Targa of Ron Montero and Acompalia Vice President Francisco Ortega of A F Consulting, a Motril-based legal firm. Both companies are major supporters of Acompalia
The Acompalia Cup was won by Jim Henderson and Marlene Taylor with a brilliant round of golf. Antonio Rodríguez López and Jose Montero Rodríguez were second. The Third Prize was won by John Parker and Peter Stratton with the same points (45) as the Second-Prize winners but came third on count back. All received prizes of superb Ron Montero presentation packs of rums.
The tournament was followed by an excellent meal at the Los Moriscos clubhouse. All agreed that the tournament had been a great sporting and social event.
It was also a very successful day for Acompalia who raised a significant sum of money, which will enable it to continue to provide support to those in need.
Lastly, Compalia will be holding their Annual General Meeting at the Hotel Salobreña at 12:30h on Wednesday the 25th May.
All welcome and we will take membership fees (15 euros per person) at the door.
