Somebody stuck three live, recently born, kittens in a plastic bag and threw them in a rubbish hopper – they weren’t going to last long in a garbage-lorry compacter.

Fortunately, their plaintive mewing was heard by a passerby who just happens to actively collaborate with an animal-protection association.

The incident, which took place on Sunday the 15th in the centre of Bilbao, goes to show why cats are considered to have nine lives!

Anyway, the ‘kitten saviour,’ Artxanda, got in contact with the Asociación Felinos Bilbao, who run a cat home in Zorroza. The animals were almost immediately passed out to ‘temporary foster homes’ as the cat home already has 300 cats.

“They’re living creatures; not refuse for dumping,” commented one of the volunteers at the cat home.
