A 6-year-old turned up at school with some of his granddad’s medication in his backpack – by the evening, four children were in hospital having their stomachs pumped out.
The incident took place at a junior school in one of the villages of the Valle de Lecrin on Thursday the 12th.
Some of the children took up to three tablets of a heart-related medication (Digoxina). However, the boy that brought to tablets to school was not one of the children that actually took them.
The teachers acted rapidly when one of the kids started vomiting and lost no time finding out what the tablets were and got straight on to the nearest medical centre, which advised taking them straight to hospital for a stomach wash.
The Head of the school immediately contacted the parents involved who took the children to the hospitals in the city of Granada themselves.
All but one of the children was sent home that same day but one stayed in the ICU under observation, just in case.
It all ended in a scare, thankfully, but there will be one little boy who won’t be going anywhere near the medicine cabinet at home in a long time.
