Almuñécar Woman Accused of Arson

A woman appeared before a judge today, accused of setting light to the main entrance of a block of flats in Almuñécar – the Public Prosecutor recommends 10-years’ imprisonment.

The incident took place on the 3rd of December 2012 at 23.00h when the accused allegedly started the fire in Edificio Reina Sofia on the Avenida de Juan Carlos I. She is reported to have set light to cardboard boxes containing old clothes and footwear.

The fire didn’t extend to the floors above thanks to the fast intervention by neighbours who managed to put it out using buckets of water.

The fire caused 1,313 euros of damage. However, the apartment owners have already received a payout from the insurance company to put things right.
