Like Donald Trump’s hairline, free parking in Almuñécar is receding rapidly.

One of the last bastions of free parking was the little road that runs parallel to Av. Andalucia called Calle Cariñena. Although most of it has already been snaffled away by the money-grabbing, blue lines, there was still a little oasis of free parking at the El Faro (Plaza de los Magnolios) end.

So, there I was, sitting in my car amongst the newly painted blue-theft markers, head resting on the steering wheel, quietly crying, when I looked up, and with my vision misted by tears I could just make out a female parking attendant, looking at me and tapping the face of her wristwatch with a claw-like digit. It was time to move on… which is probably what most visitors to the town will eventually think.
