Paint it Blue

SAL Pain it Blue OnLThe First Councillor for La Caleta-La Guardia in Salobreña has decided to have street furniture (benches, litter bins, etc) all painted blue.

Now, before you jump to the conclusion that the said councillor has a brother-in-law who owns a paint factory, it has been done to give the two municipal dependencies more of a Mediterranean air, along the lines of the Greek islands.

Of course, not everybody is happy with the idea, basically because Salobreña has traditionally been ‘white,’ not blue.

The blue chosen for the task is Azul Añil, which by the way, is the blue that most Andalusian cortijos have around their windows – seaside towns in the province of Almería use a lot of it on their whitewashed walls.

The said councillor, Gabriel Jerónimo, wants the streetlights, metal fences/railings, bollards and anybody who stands still long enough, all painted blue. He’s also rather keen for homeowners to paint their balcony railings blue, as well, so they will match the lampposts.

To be fair, he had a meeting with the locals – about 70 of them – and explained the idea and there were no voices raised in objection.

The painting has stopped for the moment, mind, so that he can see how it is going down with the locals…

If anybody sees a councillor hanging from a blue lamppost, let us know.
