Laptop & Drug Pushing

ALM Altillo beach OnL smallA young man from Ecuador has been arrested in Almuñécar, charged with stealing a computer from an elderly person. The 23-year-old man, who has a criminal record, has also been charged with drug pushing.

The 85-year-old victim, who lives near the Paseo del Altillo, had befriended the accused. The two often met on the paseo and chatted the mornings away.

During one of these conversations, the accused learned that the victim had a DVD player that he was having difficulties using because he didn’t know how it worked.

The accused allegedly took advantage of this situation to gain access to the victim’s house, offering to show him how it worked. Once inside, the man soon got it working and asked the elderly victim for a cold drink. Whilst the elderly man was in the kitchen, the accused reportedly grabbed a laptop computer and hid it inside his coat hanging on the back of a chair.

When the victim returned, the ‘guest’ quickly emptied the proffered glass and picking up his coat with the computer wrapped up in it and hurriedly left the flat.

Surprised by the young man’s haste, he decided to check his possessions and immediately saw that the laptop that had been near the sofa had disappeared. He reported the theft the next day to the Guardia Civil.

On the same day that they received the statement from the victim the police found the suspect on the Paseo del Altillo. They questioned him and decided to search him, finding marihuana and cocaine. He was also carrying Alprazolam, two telephones and 500 euros in cash.
