Mothers Lose Custody

Two mothers lost the custody of their children after they were found guilty of leaving them alone whilst they went out drinking.

Both women, aged 37 and 29, were sentenced to an 8-month suspended sentence and a temporary loss of custody of their respective children for 16 months.

The three children belonging to the 37-year-old, who is from Colombia, have been taken into state care, as they have no relatives in Spain. They are aged, 4, 5 and 12.

The 7-year-old son of the 29-year-old Russian woman has been handed over to the care of his paternal grandmother.

It was at 02.15h on the morning of the 25th of November when the police received a called from a neighbour to say that they could hear a child crying for help from a nearby window in the centre of Málaga.

A special, child-protection unit was sent around to investigate and found the first child by itself, complaining that he was cold and tired – this was through the window, as the police couldn’t gain access at first because the doors were locked and the windows had bars.

Amazingly, the 4-year-old child located some keys and dropped them down to the police but they weren’t the correct ones, so fireman had to force the bars on the window to rescue the child.

The boy told them that it was not his house, but the house of his mother’s friend and that the mother often left him by himself.

The police managed to locate the child’s real home, where the door was answered by the 12-year-old sister of the child – she had been left their to look after two younger children, aged seven and five.

One of her charges was her smaller brother and the second was the child of the women from the first flat.

The police took photographs of the interior of the flat because of the filthy state that it was in.

Two hours after finding the first child, the Colombian women arrived home, smelling of alcohol. Her first words upon discovering the police there was, “Just for once that I get a chance to go out for some fun… I’ve got my rights, too.”

During the rest of the night the police tried to locate the other mother, who finally turned up at 11.30h that morning at the first flat and had obviously been drinking judging by her condition.
